Thai Government Urges Accurate Media Reporting Amid Border Conflict Misrepresentation

Bangkok: Requesting the media to verify images and information carefully before publishing, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the issue of incorrect media reports involving the Thai-Cambodian border conflict.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu highlighted incidents where foreign media inaccurately reported the situation, including misleading headlines and misidentification of locations in photographs. One example cited was the headline 'Thailand bombs Cambodia with F-16s,' which failed to mention it was in retaliation to Cambodian aggression on July 24, 2025. Additionally, images purported to be from Cambodia actually depicted Thai civilians and locations, contributing to international misunderstandings.

Mr. Jirayu emphasized the Thai government's recognition of the media's good intentions but stressed the need for factual accuracy. He reiterated Thailand's commitment to peace and self-defense, stating that any military actions taken were in response to Cambodian attacks, which impacted Thai civilians and infrastructure. He urged the media to correct inaccuracies to prevent further misinformation.

The spokesman assured that Thailand remains open to providing accurate information and encouraged media inquiries to be directed to relevant governmental bodies. He underscored the importance of reflecting accurate facts to the international community to avoid serious misunderstandings.
