Thai Government Affirms Commitment to Peaceful Resolution of Border Clashes with Cambodia

Bangkok: The government issued a statement on the Thai-Cambodian issue, confirming that it will fully protect sovereignty.

According to Thai News Agency, the government emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and in accordance with international law, humanitarian principles, and the welfare of the people. The statement stressed that the border remains peaceful and orderly.

Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, noted that the statement followed a government meeting concerning the Thai-Cambodian border incident on May 28, 2025. The government reiterated its commitment to protecting Thailand’s sovereignty and integrity while adhering to peaceful conflict resolution principles.

The incident began on May 28, 2025, during a routine patrol by Thai forces in the Chong Bok area, Ubon Ratchathani Province, which led to a brief clash with Cambodian forces. Both governments have since engaged in discussions at all levels, including talks between the Prime Ministers, to de-
escalate the situation and restore normalcy. They agreed to utilize bilateral mechanisms like the Joint Boundary Committee Meeting (JBC), scheduled for June 14, 2025, in Cambodia.

The Cambodian government expressed interest in judicial or third-party mechanisms, but Thailand remains committed to resolving the issue through existing bilateral channels based on international law and existing treaties. Both countries aim to maintain peace and order through mechanisms like the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) and Regional Border Committee (RBC), which focus on border stability.

The government reassured citizens that the Thai-Cambodian border situation is generally peaceful, with all relevant agencies acting to protect sovereignty and uphold legal rights. The government expressed confidence in resolving the issue as good neighbors, ensuring the safety and well-being of border residents, and reinforcing their ASEAN family ties.
