Bangkok: The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has announced that all Thai employees working at Cambodian banks are expected to return to Thailand today. This decision comes as a precautionary measure amid ongoing uncertainties at the Thai-Cambodian border. The BOT has been actively monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of financial institution employees and service users.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Suwannee Jesadasakdi, Assistant Governor of the Financial Institutions Supervision Group at BOT, stated that there has been no reported damage to financial institutions situated along the border. Financial institutions have been proactive in facilitating the return of their Thai staff from Cambodian branches, with the expectation that all will have returned by the end of the day.
Additionally, some branches located in border provinces such as Surin, Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Trat, and Chanthaburi have been temporarily closed. Customers are encouraged to utilize alternative transaction methods, including mobile and internet banking. Information regarding branch operations and hours can be accessed through each financial institution's website or call center.
The BOT is maintaining vigilance over the situation and has stated that it is premature to fully assess the impact on Thailand due to the prevailing uncertainties. The institution remains committed to closely monitoring developments to safeguard financial stability and security.
