Bac ninh: The Thai men's tennis team secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Saudi Arabia, clinching the top spot in Group A and advancing to the final round of the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group 3.
According to Thai News Agency, the 2025 Davis Cup Men's World Tennis Championship's Asia/Oceania Zone, Group 3, Match 2 of Group A, was held in Bac Ninh, Vietnam. The match determined the top team in the group, with the winner advancing to the World Group 2 playoffs.
In the first match, Thai second singles player "Maeng Por" Phawich Son Laksap demonstrated resilience and skill, defeating Saudi Arabia's Bader Idris with a sweeping 6-0 victory in two straight sets, giving Thailand a 1-0 lead in pairs.
Following this, Thailand's singles number one, "Boom" Kasidit Samret, maintained his strong performance, overcoming Abdulmajid Bukhari in two straight sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. This victory ensured Thailand's win in Group A and secured their place in the World Group 2 play-offs, even before the doubles competition commenced.
In the doubles category, "Nat" Prachaya Isaro and Maximus Parapol Jones competed against Bader Idris and Abdulmajeed Bukhari. During the first set, with Thailand leading 2-1 games, Bader Idris sustained a leg injury and was unable to continue, resulting in a forfeit and a 3-0 victory for the Thai team.
The Thai team has maintained an impressive record, winning all three of their matches in Group A. They now await the completion of Group B's matches to determine their opponent in the final round of Group 3, Asia/Oceania zone, scheduled for July 19.
