Sunshine coast: The Thai youth team made a name for themselves in the Australian Mathematical Olympiad, winning 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals, 2 bronze medals and 1 certificate of honor.
According to Thai News Agency, Associate Professor Dr. Teeradej Jiarasuksakul, Director of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST), revealed that after selecting and sending the Thai delegation to compete in the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2025) during 10-20 July 2025 at the Sunshine Coast, Commonwealth of Australia, there were 630 participants from 110 countries. The results showed that Thai students were able to win 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, and 1 certificate of honor.
The detailed achievements of the Thai team include Mr. Phattanasaeng Pinijpichitkul from Triam Udom Suksa School, Bangkok, who secured the gold medal. The silver medalists were Mr. Don Sawangsap and Mr. Sirapop Khaophond, both from Triam Udom Suksa School, Bangkok. Mr. Naphon Aphinthanaphong and Mr. Kiattiphum Sijaroen, representing Triam Udom Suksa School, Bangkok, and St. Gabriel's School, Bangkok, respectively, each won a bronze medal. Additionally, Mr. Kornchawan Tantiwisetsak from Kamnoetwit School, Rayong Province, received an honorary certificate.
The team supervisors included Dr. Sarita Bunyasupa from Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Co., Ltd., who served as the team leader; Asst. Prof. Dr. Thiradej Kittipassorn from Chulalongkorn University as the deputy team leader; Dr. Suphanat Khamtue from Chulalongkorn University, Mr. Weerachai Niranatwong, an independent scholar, and Dr. Thanawit Chiruphan from Ubon Ratchathani University, all serving as assistant team leaders; and Mr. Jare Panmuang from IPST, who was the team manager.
The Thai delegation from the Mathematical Olympiad is scheduled to return to Thailand on Monday, July 21, 2025. A congratulatory ceremony organized by NSTDA will take place at 7:00 a.m. at Gate 1, 2nd floor, Arrivals Terminal, Suvarnabhumi Airport.
