Bangkok: Thai national boxers clinched three gold medals at the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament 2025, held at the Indoor Stadium Huamark. The event concluded with Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, presiding over the closing ceremony as the President of the Boxing Association of Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai national boxing team participated in seven categories. In the men's 85 kg weight category, Jakkapong Yomkot of the Thai A team faced Totirov Nusrazbek from Uzbekistan and secured a silver medal after losing 0-5.
In the women's 57kg weight class, Punrawi Rueanrot displayed exceptional boxing skills, defeating Wu Xi Yi from Taiwan with a 5-0 score to win the gold medal. Similarly, in the women's 54kg category, Natnicha Chongprongklang from Team Thailand A showcased her second-move punching technique to conquer Kazakova Feruzha from Uzbekistan with a 4-1 score, earning another gold medal for Thailand.
Both Natnicha and Punrawi are setting their sights on competing in the Olympics, with a strong belief in their ability to secure medals. Mr. Pichai Chunhavachira expressed satisfaction with the Thai boxers' performance and stressed the importance of pursuing success through dedicated efforts. He emphasized plans to visit boxing camps to scout for promising talent to represent the nation.
Overall, the Thai boxing team ended the tournament with a tally of three gold medals and four silver medals. Uzbekistan claimed the men's team championship, while a female boxer from China secured the women's team championship. The best male boxer award was given to Mohammed Abujaei from Jordan, and the best female boxer award went to Punrawi Rueanrot of Thailand.
