Surin: "Teng" Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the Prachachon Party, visited temporary shelters in Surin Province along with Mr. Rangsiman Rome, deputy leader of the Prachachon Party and chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on State Security, Thai Border Affairs, National Strategy and National Reform, to provide encouragement to residents and officials. He expressed concerns about the possible need for further evacuations if the current situation does not improve and urged the government to address the urgent shortage of supplies.
According to Thai News Agency, the visit to the shelters in Mueang and Prasat Districts involved discussions with officers about the challenges faced in assisting the people. It was identified that the shelters are lacking essential items, particularly toilets, mosquito repellent, and clothing. The need for support from agencies outside the area was emphasized as critical.
Mr. Nattapong highlighted that the temporary shelter in Prasat District remains particularly vulnerable due to its proximity to the Cambodian border. With many young children and elderly residents in the shelter, he stressed the importance of planning for potential evacuations to Mueang Surin District if the border conflict does not improve.
In his address, Mr. Nattapong reassured the residents of the officials' dedication to their welfare and called on the government to ensure that evacuation centers are adequately supplied. He also encouraged the community to support one another by gathering necessary supplies to address the current shortages.
