Surin Governor Forms Task Force to Tackle Mysterious Drone Sightings

Surin: The governor of Surin has initiated a task force to address the growing concern over mysterious drones spotted in various parts of the province's airspace. The governor, admitting that these drones have been circling the area for three days, aims to identify and neutralize any that are found.

According to Thai News Agency, a reporter visited a district in Surin Province that has been affected by recent clashes. The reporter found residents who, despite the danger, have not evacuated since the first bomb fell in their village. These residents are fortifying their homes to protect themselves against future incidents. One villager recounted the terrifying morning of July 27th when the first bomb landed just 100 meters from his home. He managed to flee with his disabled son but remains worried about his property and livestock. Despite his fears, he has no choice but to stay and adapt to the situation, hoping for a return to normalcy.

The news team discovered that over 40 bombs had fallen in the village, all of which have now been defused. Over 90% of the villagers have returned, driven by concerns for their possessions and animals. Late into the night, a Thai News Agency team joined special operations officers in observing UAVs flying over Surin City and its neighboring districts. These drones, mistaken by some for aircraft due to their bright lights, have caused anxiety among residents. Villagers, fearing that these drones might be carrying explosives, have called for immediate clarification from authorities to ease their worries.

The Surin governor confirmed that drones have been active over key locations for three days. He revealed that a joint military team has already shot down two drones and is investigating the incidents. Local officials have been instructed to eliminate any suspicious drones, with legal repercussions for those responsible. The public has been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.

The governor has also sought assistance from private sector drone experts to help with surveillance and identification efforts. Residents with information or drone sightings are encouraged to contact authorities via a 24-hour hotline at 1374.
