Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about severe summer storms expected to impact 33 provinces across Thailand, including the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions. The warning highlights potential thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail as a high-pressure system moves into the area.
According to Thai News Agency, the announcement from the Meteorological Department outlines that the affected areas will experience the most severe weather conditions between March 6 and March 8, 2025. The regions anticipated to be impacted include the North, Northeast, Central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the East. Residents in these areas should brace for thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, hail, and lightning.
The confluence of a high-pressure area from China and hot weather in the upper part of Thailand is creating the perfect conditions for these storms. The southern and southeastern winds are also bringing moisture, exacerbating the situation. Residents are advised to exercise caution, avoiding travel through storm-prone areas and taking refuge from open spaces, large trees, weak structures, and billboards. Farmers have been advised to secure their fruit trees and safeguard their agricultural products and animals during this period.
On March 6, 2025, the northern provinces of Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun, as well as several northeastern provinces including Loei, Nong Khai, and Khon Kaen, are expected to be affected. Central provinces such as Nakhon Sawan, Lopburi, and Saraburi, along with eastern regions like Chon Buri and Rayong, are also on alert.
The following day, March 7, 2025, sees an expansion of affected areas to include Tak and Kamphaeng Phet in the north, as well as additional central provinces like Singburi and Ang Thong. Bangkok and its surrounding areas are also expected to experience the storm's impact. The eastern region remains under threat, along with the southern provinces of Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon.
By March 8, 2025, the central focus will remain on the provinces surrounding Bangkok and extend to Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon in the south, as the storm's influence gradually diminishes.
