Sukhothai: Floodwaters from the Yom River have inundated the Wat Pak Kwae area in Mueang District, Sukhothai Province, reaching depths of up to 50 centimeters. Relevant agencies have been dispatched to assist affected villagers in the area. One missing person from the flash floods in Ban Huai Pong, Mae Hong Son Province, has been found.
According to Thai News Agency, the floodwaters have spread into Village Nos. 2 and 4 of Pak Kwae Subdistrict. Villagers report that this flooding is more severe than previous occurrences. The water level on Charoenwithithong Road exceeds 50 centimeters, and even large sandbags cannot counter the water's force, leading to road closures over a 600-meter stretch.
Sukhothai Governor Noppharit Sirikosol, along with relevant agencies, has been mobilized to provide assistance. The Provincial Electricity Authority of Sukhothai Province has cut off power in the Wat Pak Kwae area due to water levels exceeding two meters.
Water from the Yom River in Phrae Province entered Sukhothai at 2:00 PM, and it is expected to flow through five districts: Si Satchanalai, Sawankhalok, Si Samrong, Mueang, and Kong Krailat, until approximately 9:00 AM tomorrow. Residents along the river have been advised to remain vigilant and monitor official updates.
In Mae Hong Son Province, authorities have conducted an autopsy on Mr. Wanno, 53, who died in a flash flood in Ban Huai Pong. His body was found buried in mud, approximately 1 kilometer from the accident site. The search continues for his missing wife, Ms. Siriporn.
Efforts to recover from the flash floods in Pha Bong are ongoing, with sectors mobilizing to aid residents in rebuilding. The Thunder Beans souvenir shop was completely damaged, with significant losses in stock and equipment, estimated at around 700,000 baht. Recovery will take time, but businesses are working to resume operations.
In addition to Ban Huai Pong and Ban Pha Bong, many affected areas still await full assistance, as large trees, mud, and fallen power poles hinder communication and relief efforts.
