Bangkok: Senator Pinyaphat points out that the reason youths get involved with drugs is because of "feeling worthless - lack of goals". He recommends that awareness of rights and duties be built up. He believes that this will become mental immunity to keep Thai children away from drugs.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Pinyaphat Sansaniyachiwin, a member of the Senate, addressed the issue of youth drug addiction by emphasizing the importance of children understanding both their rights and duties. She suggested that it is crucial for children to know what they should or should not do and to create a sense of self-worth in themselves. By recognizing their own value, children would not need to resort to drugs as a means of mental escape, thereby developing a mental immunity against drug use.
Ms. Pinyaphat stated, 'One of the main reasons why young people get involved with drugs is a sense of worthlessness or a lack of purpose in life. If we can instill in them a sense of self-worth and a clear goal, they will not feel the need to rely on drugs to escape their problems.'
Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of prevention over suppression in tackling the drug problem. By fostering a sense of value within the youth from the outset, society can create a foundation for prevention and help steer them away from the path of drug addiction.
