SET Launches Campaign to Support Southern Mangosteen Farmers

Bangkok: The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has initiated the 'Join forces to support Thai fruits to the power of 2' campaign, aimed at supporting 5.4 tons of southern mangosteens. The initiative invites SET employees and the broader capital market sector to bolster Thai fruit consumption and assist farmers grappling with market surplus due to an oversupply of produce.

According to Thai News Agency, Mrs. Rongrak Panaphawuttikul, Deputy Managing Director of SET, received the mangosteens from the executives of the Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce. This effort is designed to stimulate consumption and aid farmers impacted by border closures and adverse weather conditions that have exacerbated the produce surplus in the market.

Mrs. Rongrak explained that the internal campaign encourages SET staff to purchase baskets of mangosteens, sourced from farmers in Chumphon Province, priced at 150 baht for a 4.5-kilogram basket. For every basket purchased by the employees, SET commits to buying an additional basket for distribution to vulnerable groups via SET's partner network.

The campaign has resulted in the purchase of 5,400 kilograms of mangosteens, with SET employees acquiring 2,700 kilograms and SET ordering an equivalent amount for donation. The additional baskets will be delivered to public health centers such as Public Health Center 4 Din Daeng, Public Health Center 52 Samsen Nok, Public Health Center 26 Huai Khwang, and hospitals like the Thai Red Cross Society and Rajavithi Hospital, specifically for the poor patient ward.

Mrs. Rongrak expressed that this initiative allows mangosteen farmers to directly connect with consumers, bypassing intermediaries and ensuring a fair income for the farmers. She emphasized the importance of collective support to navigate through challenging times.

The campaign also extends an invitation to businesses and organizations within the capital market to support Thai farmers by ordering Thai fruits through the Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, via ID Line @ditthaifruits or by contacting 098-8935699, 092-5139944.
