Bangkok: Senator Nantana supports the Krirk University Council's consideration of stripping Prime Minister Hun Sen of his honorary degree following his atrocities against Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nantana Nantawaropas, a senator, posted a message on her personal Facebook page after information spread online that she had accompanied Krirk University's executives in conferring an honorary doctorate in political communication on former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on March 19, 2019. Krirk University is now calling for a statement of stance and action regarding the honorary degree, including the possibility of revoking it or clarifying the reasons for maintaining it. Ms. Nantana stated that discrediting efforts are ongoing due to challenges to the blue power. She clarified that the image circulated is from six years ago when the Krirk University Council conferred the honorary doctorate upon then-Cambodian leader Hun Sen. As dean, she accompanied the university president to the ceremony along with the university's executives. The conferment of an honorary doctorate to an individual can only be done by the university council.
Ms. Nantana mentioned that since becoming a senator, she has resigned from her position as dean and all other administrative roles at Krirk University. She is currently only an outsider to the institution.
"Considering Hun Sen's egregious actions against Thailand, I share the same view as the Thai people who are calling on the Krirk University Council to revoke Hun Sen's honorary degree, in line with the previous resolution by the Ramkhamhaeng University Council," Ms. Nantana stated.
