Bangkok: A senator, who has recently been embroiled in a scandal involving sexual abuse allegations, is now facing accusations of theft concerning a 2021 car accident case.
According to Thai News Agency, the senator allegedly stole property valued at 1.5 million baht from a victim of a car crash. The incident took place on May 31, 2021, when a luxury car overturned on the Burapha Withi Expressway, heading towards Bangkok. The crash resulted in the death of Ms. Piyadda, the driver, and serious injuries to Ms. Phoruma, a passenger. Following the accident, relatives reported missing valuables, initially suspecting rescue workers of the theft.
Authorities conducted an investigation, calling in rescue volunteers and journalists present at the scene for questioning. CCTV footage revealed two men exiting a vehicle that stopped at the crash site, collecting bags and valuables before leaving. The investigation identified one of the suspects as the senator currently under scrutiny for alleged misconduct.
The Chachoengsao Provincial Court is handling the case, with a witness examination set for August 6. The senator remains a central figure in both the theft and the ongoing sexual abuse inquiry.
