Bangkok: "Suang" has raised questions about the allocation of the second deputy speaker position in the House of Representatives, suggesting that it may not be designated for Pheu Thai. Mr. Surawong Thienthong, the Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, addressed concerns that Pheu Thai MPs from the Northeast are advocating for the party to secure this position. He clarified that he has not been formally approached about this matter, though he acknowledged receiving expressions of interest from some MPs in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surawong emphasized that the second deputy speaker role might not automatically belong to Pheu Thai and could be allocated to another coalition party. The decision on whether this position should be given to MPs from the Northeast will be based on appropriateness rather than regional representation alone.
When questioned about the possibility of the Klatham Party nominating a candidate for the position, Mr. Surawong appeared surprised and suggested that such matters should be discussed within the coalition government. He highlighted the importance of considering party size and quotas, noting the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party's status as the second-largest party, and indicated that discussions will be necessary before any decisions are made.
Mr. Surawong also confirmed that there would be no changes to the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, dismissing any speculation about alterations in this position.
