Scholarship Students Propel High-Tech Industry Development in Thailand

Bangkok: Scholarship students are being encouraged to use their research to not only advance their own businesses but also to assist startup entrepreneurs and support high-tech industries in Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the government, through the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), is promoting the growth of new high-tech industries by leveraging the research contributions of master's and doctoral students studying abroad.

Mr. Karom highlighted that, historically, Thai government scholarship students were required to return to work within various government agencies post-graduation. The new initiative marks a significant shift, allowing these students to transform their research into viable businesses that can support Thai entrepreneurs, particularly startups. This is facilitated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, which has relaxed relevant regulations to streamline the process.

The focus of this initiative will initially be on scholarship students conducting research in IC Design or integrated circuit design within the semiconductor industry. This effort will be supported by a partnership with Imperial, a prestigious institution known for fostering technology startups. Imperial's involvement will be instrumental in transforming research projects into business ventures.

Mr. Karam emphasized that the government's strategy is to enhance the semiconductor and advanced electronics industries, aligning with a strategic plan aimed at developing human resources to attract investment in Thailand's semiconductor sector. This move is seen as a vital step in ensuring industry stability and fostering the expansion of high-value sectors.
