Intellectual Property Court Promotes Legal Frameworks for Digital Age Challenges

Bangkok: The Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court marked its 28th anniversary by hosting a seminar under the theme 'Overcoming the Challenges of Intellectual Property and International Trade Laws in the Digital Age'. The event aimed to enhance the understanding of applying laws to address issues related to AI, copyright, and global trade.

According to Thai News Agency, the seminar was spearheaded by Mrs. Chanakan Thiravetpolkul, President of the Supreme Court, and Mrs. Thanathip Chongchakraphan, Chief Justice of the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court. It was a collaborative effort involving the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court, the Association of Associate Judges in the Central Intellectual Property Court, the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO Bangkok), and the Thai Arbitration Institute.

The seminar sought to equip participants with insights into the evolving landscape of intellectual property and international trade laws, acknowledging the complexities introduced by technological advancements. It aimed to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge, enabling attendees to apply their learnings effectively in their professional endeavors, thereby fostering the stability and fairness of intellectual property and trade laws.

Mr. Sorawit Limprangsi, Deputy Chief Justice of the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court, highlighted the continuous rise in intellectual property violations, noting the increased complexity of such infringements. These include unauthorized modifications of images, videos, or content for AI training, leading to challenges in identifying ownership. He emphasized the necessity for law enforcement to evolve alongside technological changes to ensure efficient and fair practice.

The seminar featured contributions from local and international experts who shared perspectives on interpreting copyright, patent, trademark, and trade laws within the circular economy framework. This discourse aimed to align Thai legal enforcement with the contemporary global context.

The seminar took place on 29-30 May 2025 at the Harmony Grand Ballroom, M¶venpick BDMS Wellness Resort Bangkok. Highlights included a special lecture by Mrs. Tarntip Jongjakraphan on intellectual property law in the context of AI and another on international trade and competition law in the digital age.
