Bangkok: The Sangha Council has issued a resolution to enhance the management of temple properties by integrating modern systems such as e-Donation. This move aims to align temple management practices with contemporary standards and ensure compliance with both Dhamma teachings and legal frameworks.
According to Thai News Agency, the Sangha Supreme Council, during its meeting at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, outlined four urgent actions for the National Office of Buddhism. These actions are intended to fortify the management of temple properties across the nation. Mr. Inthaporn Chan-aim, Director of the Office of Buddhism, stated that the council has prioritized the establishment of a committee by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to develop guidelines for temple property management. This committee will include representatives from relevant agencies, professional organizations, and qualified individuals to collaboratively address property management issues, under the leadership of Somdej Phra Mahawirawong.
The council also emphasized the need for standardized temple income and expenditure accounts. The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) is tasked with employing technology systems to enhance efficiency and transparency in managing temple properties. Financial statements will be reported to relevant agencies and made available to the public to ensure accountability.
Moreover, the introduction of an electronic donation system (e-Donation) for temples is a significant step forward. This system, facilitated by the Department of Religious Affairs in collaboration with the Revenue Department, encourages Buddhists to donate electronically through QR codes linked to temple accounts. The Department of Religious Affairs plans to promote this system to increase its adoption.
Lastly, the resolution calls for an internal restructuring of the Office of the Permanent Secretary to improve its responsiveness to the Sangha's needs. Following the Supreme Sangha Council's resolution, these measures will be submitted to the Supreme Patriarch for approval to ensure swift implementation.
