Royal Thai Police Announce Truck Restrictions on Seven Key Routes During Songkran Festival

Bangkok: The Traffic Management Center of the Royal Thai Police has announced a prohibition on trucks with 10 wheels or more from driving on seven specific routes during the upcoming Songkran Festival. Pol. Gen. Kraibhun Trawadsong, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, emphasized the necessity of this measure to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow during the festival, which will see a significant increase in road usage due to five consecutive public holidays from April 12 to 16, 2025.

According to Thai News Agency, the restrictions will be in effect from April 11 to 13 and from April 15 to 17, 2025. The affected routes include Mittraphap Road from Thap Kwang to Sikhio, Kabin Buri to Pak Thong Chai Road, and Buriram to Aranyaprathet Road, among others. These measures aim to facilitate better traffic management and reduce the risk of accidents during the period when many people will be traveling to their hometowns or to other provinces.

For those who need to drive on the restricted routes, permission must be obtained from relevant authorities such as the Highway Police Division or provincial police, depending on the specific route. Pol. Lt. Gen. Nitithorn Chintakanon highlighted the importance of these regulations in paving the way for more efficient travel and urged transport operators and truck drivers to plan their journeys in advance. Additionally, they should avoid parking on the road shoulders to prevent accidents.
