Royal Thai Army Investigates Cambodian Military Attack on Civilian Targets

Sisaket: The Royal Thai Army led a comprehensive delegation to the border area to assess the aftermath of a Cambodian military attack on Thailand, focusing on civilian targets. This investigation included ambassadors, deputy ambassadors, and representatives from 11 countries, along with military attach©s from 23 countries, to inspect the damage and verify reports of Cambodian soldiers targeting schools, hospitals, convenience stores, and gas stations.

According to Thai News Agency, the delegation gathered at Wing 6 Airfield, where the Royal Thai Army Public Relations Center organized a briefing for the visitors. This session outlined the damage inflicted and highlighted Cambodian violations of the ceasefire agreement in the region. The group then proceeded to visit areas significantly impacted by the conflict, including a convenience store and a PTT gas station in Ban Mue, Nong Ya La Due Subdistrict, Katralak District. These locations suffered rocket attacks resulting in the deaths of eight Thai citizens, including a child, and injuries to ten others.

The delegation continued their inspection by visiting Phum Soron Witthaya School and Ban Cham Meng Health Promoting Hospital in Sao Thong Chai Subdistrict to observe the damage. They also visited the Kantharalak Technology College Shelter to understand the broader impact on civilians who were uninvolved in the conflict.

The visit involved representatives from various countries, including ambassadors from Brunei, Japan, and Myanmar, and deputy ambassadors from Malaysia, Lao PDR, and Indonesia. Diplomatic representatives from the United States, Singapore, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines were also present, making a total of 11 countries involved.

Military attach©s from 23 countries, including China, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Germany, India, Laos, Canada, France, the United States, the Philippines, Japan, Vietnam, Italy, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Sweden, Switzerland, Brunei, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, joined the delegation.

Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari, the army spokesman, emphasized the objective of the visit, which was to explore Sisaket Province and assess the impact of the Cambodian military's actions on civilian areas. He noted that the delegation, comprising nearly 200 individuals, was there to evaluate the situation firsthand and facilitate international communication about the events.

The Royal Thai Army spokesman remarked on the importance of focusing on factual reporting. He highlighted the geographical distance between the inspected locations and the active conflict zones, which foreign observers acknowledged. Observers praised the Royal Thai Army's transparency and swift response to the situation, expressing confidence in the army's handling of the incident.
