Ubon ratchathani: The Royal Thai Army has granted a special bonus of 7 levels, promoting Private Thanapat Huiwan to the rank of sergeant major, following a landmine incident that left him and two other soldiers injured. This gesture is part of a comprehensive effort to provide full care and assistance to those affected by the incident. The commander of the 2nd Army, along with other commanding officers, visited the soldiers to offer encouragement and express gratitude for their bravery and dedication to the nation.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred on July 16, 2015, when personnel from the 6021st Infantry Company were patrolling in the Chong Bok area of Ubon Ratchathani Province and accidentally stepped on a landmine. This unfortunate event resulted in injuries to Private Thanapat Huiwan, Private Nattawut Srikhem, and Sergeant Patipat Srilapakdi. All the injured soldiers are reported to be safe and are currently under close medical supervision at the Saraphithiprasong Camp Hospital.
General Pana Klaewplodthuk, the Army Commander, has expressed concern for the well-being of the injured soldiers, who were performing their duty to protect the Thai-Cambodian border. In response, he has ensured that the soldiers receive the best medical care available and has tasked the Department of Army Personnel with overseeing their rights and welfare. Private Thanapat Huiwan, who sustained a fractured left ankle, has undergone surgery and received a special promotion, along with substantial financial support totaling 964,057 baht. This includes royal funds for disability, morale-boosting funds, war compensation, and assistance from the Sai Jai Thai Foundation. Upon completing his treatment, he will also receive a monthly pension and additional financial support.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Patipat Srilapak and Private First Class Nattawut Srikhem, who experienced chest tightness from the blast, have been given initial financial assistance and morale boosters. The Royal Thai Army continues to monitor their recovery and extends ongoing support to the soldiers and their families.
