Rider Claims Harassment by Impersonator Posing as Detective

Bangkok: A motorcyclist, Tah, has reported a harrowing encounter with an individual who claimed to be a police detective. The man allegedly followed and threatened the rider, accusing him of illegal riding practices.

According to Thai News Agency, Tah, a 27-year-old rider, shared the incident on Facebook and with local media, asserting that the man, who claimed to be a police officer, approached him near the entrance of Soi Phetkasem 81/5 as he was about to begin a delivery job. The alleged officer, who carried a walkie-talkie and a flashlight, blocked Tah's path and accused him of riding without a food container. The situation escalated into a confrontation, prompting Tah to record the incident for his safety as it took place around midnight.

During the altercation, the impersonator chased Tah away, threatening to file a complaint if he did not leave. Tah returned home unable to complete his deliveries, with the man tailing him and cursing him until Tah reached his alleyway. Tah became convinced of the man's deception, noting the absence of a police ID and the lack of typical police conduct.

Nong Khaem Police Station has confirmed that the individual is not affiliated with their force. High-ranking officers have instructed investigators to file a complaint from the victim and expedite the investigation to identify and prosecute the imposter for his actions and false claims.

Further inquiries by reporters at Nong Khaeng Phlu Police Station, located near the incident, also confirmed that the man was not connected to their station. They reiterated that he is neither a police officer nor a volunteer within their jurisdiction.

Tah has cautioned other riders and road users to remain vigilant against impostors claiming to be law enforcement officers. He advised requesting identification and recording any suspicious encounters. He also clarified his own position as a rider who primarily transports passengers, explaining the absence of a food container as a non-violation of company policies. Tah called for authorities to ensure the man is not a legitimate officer from another area before taking further action.
