According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved a group of Myanmar teenagers who rode motorcycles through Chiang Mai city, targeting and attacking a 14-year-old Thai girl in front of a convenience store. The attack left two other male teenagers injured. The violent encounter occurred on the Chiang Mai-San Kamphaeng road, near the Buak Khrok intersection, late on September 16th.

The investigation team of Provincial Police Region 5 expanded their search and managed to capture Mr. Top, the leader of the Shan 999 migrant worker gang, who had fled to Plaeng Yao District in Chachoengsao Province. The individuals, aged between 14 and 31, were charged with causing severe bodily harm and carrying weapons in public areas without permission.

Mr. Mong confessed to orchestrating the attack with a group of Myanmar nationals in Chiang Mai, coordinating through the Line app. The attack was reportedly a retaliatory action after a junior member of their group was assaulted by unidentified teenagers. Approximately 30 members assembled and rode motorcycles around Chiang Mai until they encountered the victims. Mr. Mong admitted to using a samurai knife during the attack. Afterward, they dispersed to avoid capture. He attempted to evade authorities by traveling to Bangkok but was caught at the Mae Tha drug checkpoint in Lamphun Province.
