Rakchanok Demands Accountability After Repeated Bridge Collapse Incidents

Bangkok: “Rakchanok” visits the collapsed bridge, saying that if the lesson is not seriously learned, it will happen again. Ice Rakchanok’ asked the Minister of Transport about the bridge collapse incident 3 months ago. The lessons learned have not been completed yet, and a new incident has occurred again. She urged measures to list and demote contractors, but it has not been completed. Is it just a measure to solve the symptoms?

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, Bangkok MP of the Prachachon Party, who is an MP in the area, came to follow up on the incident where the elevated bridge beam collapsed on Rama II Road before revealing that Rama II Road is a legend of accidents. The latest incident in November of last year was a similar incident that resulted in fatalities.

Ms. Rakchanok said that it was very disappointing because the Minister of Transport at that time had promised that it would not happen again. When he came to give information to the committee, he said that he would take action to learn from it, but it has been 3 months and there has been no progress. Before it was finished, the incident happened again.

As for the measure to list contractors, I have seen that it has been talked about for a long time but has not been completed. How can the work cause repeated incidents? I think it is a solution to the end of the cause. There should be incentives to improve the standards of contractors at the root cause. Because even if they are demoted and listed as contractors, they may use nominees to open new companies again.

Seriously solving the problem, the People’s Party has proposed the Road Act to investigate engineering aspects to have legal effects as well. When an incident like this occurs, experts are invited to join in to learn from it and have legal effects. But in the end, the law was dropped. If lessons are not learned seriously and strictly, it will happen again.
