Bangkok: Authorities have issued a warning to the public to be vigilant about fraudulent emails purporting to be from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE). These emails falsely claim to be soliciting donations and announcing the issuance of legal casino licenses.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Karom Polpornklang, Deputy Government Spokesperson, has cautioned against scammers posing as the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. The fraudulent activities include false claims about the Ministry issuing licenses for establishing legal casinos, with scammers charging a registration fee and a deposit of 47,074 baht. Mr. Karom clarified that the Ministry has not issued any such licenses.
The emails also falsely use the logo of the Ministry of Digital Affairs and the Minister's name to solicit tax payments and donations for a fund in 2025. Mr. Karom urged the public to disregard these emails and not to fall for such deceptive tactics.
Mr. Karom further stated that the Ministry of Digital Economy will pursue legal actions against perpetrators spreading false and misleading information online. Such acts of impersonating government agencies constitute online crimes with significant societal impacts. The Ministry is committed to tracking the sources of these fake news and prosecuting the offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
He reiterated warnings against scammers who disseminate fake news to deceive individuals for their property and personal information. He urged the public to adhere to the '4 No's': Do not click on links, do not believe the information, do not rush to conclusions, and do not transfer money. Any information regarding fake news and online crimes can be reported through the 24-hour hotline 1111.
