Protest Rally Gathers Momentum at Victory Monument as Traffic Worsens

Bangkok: The United Power of the Land group gradually joined the rally at Victory Monument, where leaders performed a religious ceremony before taking the stage to deliver speeches. Traffic around the area became congested and moved slowly as the crowd grew.

According to Thai News Agency, stages and speakers have been installed, with the stage facing Victory Monument and Sanam Pao. Projector screens have been set up around the area to accommodate the gathering protesters. As the crowd settled, convenience points, coordination points, and water and food distribution locations were established, while vendors began selling products in the vicinity.

The Student and People Network for Thailand Reform (SNNRT) initiated a procession at Chamai Maruchet Bridge near Government House, moving towards Victory Monument to join the various groups that had assembled earlier. The activities include a religious ceremony in the morning to dedicate merit to military heroes, followed by speeches from the protesters. The highlight of the rally is scheduled for the evening, with a statement reading after the national anthem at 6:00 p.m. Core leaders will then take turns giving speeches until the stage closes at 9:00 p.m.

In the surrounding area, the route to Victory Monument, including the entrance to Soi Phahon Yothin 2, has police checkpoints with signs advising travelers to avoid Phahon Yothin Road towards Victory Monument. Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Bangkok governor, is overseeing arrangements and has stated that 10 mobile toilets have been arranged at four locations, along with drinking water trucks, ambulances, and local law enforcement officers to ensure the safety of the rally.

Currently, traffic around Victory Monument remains open, though the volume is increasing and movement is becoming sluggish.
