Sisaket: Probationers involved in drunk and reckless driving cases are now observing their own driving behaviors through CCTV cameras, an initiative led by the Department of Probation to enhance awareness and foster behavioral change aimed at reducing road accidents.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Suriya Singhakamol, the Director-General of the Probation Department, has directed probation offices nationwide to implement preventive measures and campaigns designed to curb road accidents during the New Year Festival 2025. These initiatives align with the strategies for accident prevention outlined by the Minister of Justice, following discussions at the Special Subcommittee of the Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Center.
The Sisaket, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Probation Offices, among others, have worked in tandem with local agencies to facilitate this program. Probationers charged with offenses such as driving under the influence, reckless driving, and speeding, alongside probation volunteers, are analyzing traffic and vehicle usage behaviors on main and secondary roads via real-time CCTV footage. This initiative aims to raise awareness and enable probationers to identify accident-causing factors, encouraging adherence to traffic laws.
The Director-General has also mandated that all probation offices review data on repeat offenders in drunk driving cases and those who have undergone traffic law education. Immediate legal action is required for any recurring offenses.
Additionally, the department has collaborated with local public health offices to organize support activities for accident victims. This includes coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure prompt care and assistance and partnering with the Institute of Forensic Science to analyze traffic research data related to accident risk points. This comprehensive approach is part of the Minister of Justice's directive to mitigate road accidents at identified risk locations.
