Bangkok: The private sector is keeping a close eye on the Constitutional Court's consideration of the leaked audio clip between the Prime Minister and Hun Sen, hoping that the country will move forward. It is not surprising that the new cabinet sees anyone as being irrelevant, but asks that they speed up their work.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Kriangkrai Thienukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), stated that the private sector is anxiously awaiting the Constitutional Court's decision on whether to accept or reject the petition concerning the audio clip involving the Prime Minister and Hun Sen. A negative outcome, where the court accepts the petition and orders the Prime Minister to cease duties, could lead to confusion and economic uncertainty. Although there would be an acting Prime Minister, it would not equate to having a fully functioning leader, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty for both domestic and international investors.
The private sector hopes for a resolution that allows the country to progress. An inability to move forward could hinder investor confidence. Regarding the new cabinet, Mr. Kriangkrai expressed understanding of the government's limitations in selecting individuals due to coalition party dynamics and quota allocations, differing from private sector selection processes. He emphasized the need for the new cabinet to expedite their work to address Thailand's longstanding issues. Drawing a parallel to President Deng Xiaoping's philosophy, he underscored the importance of effectiveness over individual identity in ministerial roles.
The private sector urges seamless execution of economic strategies, particularly in stimulating the economy, enhancing purchasing power, and bolstering tourist confidence, especially concerning safety and fair pricing. The emphasis is on efficient use of the budget without leakage to expedite economic recovery.
