Prime Minister Urges Thais to Support Local Fruit Amid Oversupply Concerns

Chanthaburi: The Prime Minister has called upon the citizens of Thailand to actively purchase and consume local fruits, expressing concerns over an oversupply caused by recent heavy rains. During a visit to Chanthaburi Province, local villagers presented the Prime Minister with baskets of durians, suggesting he share them with his father.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, along with her team, visited the Thai SELECT marked restaurant booths at the Maneechan Resort Hotel in Tambon Plap Phla, Mueang District. The visit was part of a campaign promoting the consumption of seasonal Thai fruits.

Upon her arrival, Ms. Shinawatra was warmly welcomed with flowers and fruit baskets from the locals. During the exchange, villagers presented her with durians, expressing their desire for the Prime Minister to pass them on to her father.

During her visit, the Prime Minister engaged with farmers to discuss export opportunities, emphasizing the global recognition of Thai fruits. She encouraged Thai citizens to consume local produce, highlighting the international fame of Thai fruits, including the esteemed "king and queen" of fruits. The Prime Minister mentioned that the current season's yield is high due to significant rainfall and stressed the importance of supporting local farmers and orchard owners.

The Prime Minister also toured the Thai SELECT Thailand restaurant exhibition, which featured three out of five notable restaurants from Chanthaburi Province. The exhibition highlighted innovative dishes like Salad Salad Sumalee, Somtam Durian, and Chamuang Pork Curry, showcasing the integration of local fruits into traditional cuisine.
