Bangkok: The Prime Minister discussed with GDS International Company and is ready to invest in a data center. Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister, met with Mr. William Wei Huang, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GDS Holdings, and Ms. Jamie Gee Choo Khoo, Chairman of GDS International (GDSI). Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, summarized the important points of the discussion, emphasizing the strategic investment to bolster Thailand's position as a digital economic hub in the ASEAN region. According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister expressed enthusiasm for GDSI's investment strategy, revealing plans to construct a Hyperscale Data Center in Chonburi Province. This project marks the company's first endeavor approved by the BOI Board, signifying a critical step in expanding investment within Thailand. The Prime Minister assured that all pertinent agencies are prepared to support and facilitate companies investing in the nation. The President and CEO of GDS Company conveyed confidence in Thailand's capability to emerge as a regional hub connecting Southeast Asian countries. The country boasts comprehensive public utilities, a suitable environment, and a digital infrastructure conducive to developing a data center hub. This infrastructure can accommodate the expansion of cloud services and AI technology. With over 1,000 global customers and industry partners, the company is poised to support the creation of a data center ecosystem in Thailand, aligning with the Thai government's policies and planning continual investment expansion. In this context, the Prime Minister tasked the BOI with serving as the primary coordinating body to streamline various permit applications. This ensures that companies investing in Thailand adhere to necessary processes. The government emphasizes promoting investment factors, particularly enhancing the skills of Thai personnel in digital technology, thereby creating more opportunities and careers for the people. Additionally, the Prime Minister introduced the One Family One Soft Power policy to support high-skilled labor and promote Upskill - Reskill development to align with global changes. This policy aims to provide scholarships in various technologies and invites companies to share digital expertise with Thai universities, focusing on developing digital skills for undergraduate and graduate students. The company agreed to support the new generation by imparting knowledge in related technologies and cooperating with partner agencies and Thai educational institutions to enhance the potential and advanced digital skills of Thai personnel in preparation for future industries.
