Bangkok: The Prime Minister has taken decisive action by forming three subcommittees to tackle the growing threat of scammers, with none of the committees including Thammanat. The initiative aims to address various aspects of technology crimes, from suppression to prevention and public awareness.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul signed an official order on October 24, appointing the subcommittees. The first subcommittee, chaired by Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol Naowarat, who serves as the Minister of Justice, is tasked with implementing measures to suppress technology crimes. This includes handling offenses related to proceeds from such crimes and ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering laws. The subcommittee will also monitor offender behavior and coordinate with other agencies.
The second subcommittee, led by Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, with Police General Permpoon Chidchob acting as an advisor, will focus on establishing guidelines for preventing technology crimes. Their responsibilities include coordinating cooperation among agencies and analyzing trends to enhance crime prevention strategies.
The third subcommittee, under the leadership of Pol. Gen. Trairong Phiwpaen, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police, is charged with public relations efforts to combat cybercrime. This includes producing educational materials, coordinating with agencies for outreach, and building networks within civil society. The subcommittee also aims to address complaints from cybercrime victims and develop partnerships for effective action.
Additionally, a separate committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Ekniti Nitithanpraphat, is set to investigate financial transactions and money laundering related to technology crimes, pending the Prime Minister's final approval.
It is significant that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Thammanat Prompao is not included in any of the subcommittees, underscoring the targeted approach of the Prime Minister's strategy.
