Bangkok: The Prime Minister stated that he is unaware of any intentions by the Bhumjaithai Party to position itself as an opposition if it does not maintain control over the Interior Ministry. In a statement, the Prime Minister expressed surprise at the rumors, stating, "Yesterday I didn't see you say something like this," and clarified that his discussions with Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, were strictly work-related.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra addressed the media following a cabinet meeting, discussing the topic of a potential cabinet reshuffle. When questioned about conversations with Anutin Charnvirakul in his role as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, she assured that no such discussions had taken place, emphasizing their focus on ongoing work and policy matters. While referring to areas requiring further progress, she stated her expectations clearly. During the interview, she briefly turned to Mr. Anutin, who was present, before remarking, "I didn't come."
In response to questions about the potential long-term role of Anutin as Interior Minister, the Prime Minister emphasized that such decisions are left to individual discretion. She noted that regardless of government composition or ministerial appointments, the work must continue across all ministries.
Addressing inquiries about any preconditions for joining the government or prolonged ministerial roles, the Prime Minister clarified that no such conditions exist, and discussions focused solely on the ministry itself.
When asked about reports suggesting the Bhumjaithai Party's readiness to assume an opposition role if it loses oversight of the Interior Ministry, the Prime Minister firmly denied receiving any communication from Mr. Anutin on the matter. She reiterated, "No, yesterday (June 16), I didn't see you say anything like that. I didn't hear anything like that." The Prime Minister concluded her remarks with a brief expression of gratitude before leaving the interview, choosing not to address further inquiries from reporters regarding the Pheu Thai Party's interest in reclaiming the Interior Ministry. She promptly exited the command building and returned to the Thai Khu Fah Building.
It is worth noting that neither Mr. Anutin nor other ministers from the coalition government attended the Prime Minister's press conference today (June 17). The ministers present were exclusively from the Pheu Thai Party.
