Bangkok: The Prime Minister has ordered immediate intervention to address severe flooding in Mae Sai, directing the Interior Minister to take swift action.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, took to social media to announce her response to the crisis, which has arisen due to water overflow from Myanmar into Mae Sai, impacting areas near Wat Phrommawihan. She has tasked Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, with urgently assisting the affected residents. Additionally, the Prime Minister has instructed the Ministry of Public Health to conduct water quality tests by collecting samples, aiming to alleviate concerns about potential contamination. The Ministry is also to perform health checks on those impacted by the flood to mitigate panic and ensure ongoing monitoring of the situation.
The flood's impact is compounded by the collapse of the base of the White Bedo pagoda, as Myanmar's soldiers were unable to prevent the overflow. This has added urgency to the relief efforts being coordinated by Thai authorities in response to the natural disaster.
