Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, confirmed that the Prime Minister has already communicated with the Second Army Region Commander regarding recent issues, ensuring there are no misunderstandings. If media representatives have concerns, they are encouraged to directly reach out to the commander for clarification.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham emphasized that the Second Army Region Commander has expressed understanding after a conversation with the Prime Minister, indicating that there is no cause for concern. Mr. Phumtham reassured that no other army commanders have misunderstood the situation, suggesting that inquiries be directed to the Second Army Region Commander to confirm the communication with the Prime Minister.
Addressing comments from Mr. Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, secretary-general of the Progressive Movement, who suggested dissolving parliament over fears of a coup, Mr. Phumtham dismissed these concerns, stating that there is no threat of a coup and that it is not within the Prime Minister's duties to dissolve parliament. He stressed the importance of understanding legal frameworks before calling for such actions.
When questioned about the potential impact of a leaked audio clip, Mr. Phumtham expressed no concern, citing the reassurance from the Second Army Commander. Despite calls from various parties for the Prime Minister's resignation and the dissolution of parliament, Mr. Phumtham reiterated that no valid reason exists for such measures, urging a study of the law to understand the reasons for parliamentary dissolution.
