Prime Minister Attends APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Korea

Gyeongju: The Prime Minister attended the first APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, emphasizing the importance of this forum for fostering cooperation to address challenges and contribute to building a connected, strong, and sustainable region.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, participated in the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting - Session I, themed 'Towards a More Connected, Resilient Region and Beyond,' held at Room 300C of the Hwabaek International Convention Centre (HICO) in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. During the meeting, he expressed gratitude to the Chair and the Korean government for their hospitality and preparation. The United Arab Emirates was welcomed as the Chair's guest, and the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was thanked for presenting the global economic outlook for 2025. The Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of cooperation in an era of global challenges and emphasized the need for APEC to remain open, inclusive, and future-oriented.

The Prime Minister stated that free trade and connected markets are essential for sustainable prosperity. He advocated for a modern, inclusive, rules-based cooperation framework to ensure that all sectors, especially MSMEs, benefit from regional economic connectivity.

Investment, he noted, should be driven by both innovation and sustainability. To this end, Thailand has introduced the Thailand FastPass program to facilitate quality investments in clean energy, digital infrastructure, and high-tech industries, ensuring growth that preserves the planet for future generations.

The Prime Minister also underscored the private sector's role in future transformation. Investment in human resources, digital skills, artificial intelligence (AI), and harmonizing digital standards will enhance trade efficiency and inclusivity. Inspired by APEC cooperation, Thailand has begun the process of becoming an OECD member, demonstrating its commitment to international standards and cooperation among special economic zones.

Thailand remains committed to expanding cooperation beyond the region. This year, Thailand and China will co-host the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Summit, and next year, Thailand will host the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting and the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank.

"These meetings will serve as a crucial platform for fostering closer cooperation among APEC and non-APEC members to jointly address challenges and unlock new economic opportunities. Together, APEC can build a more connected, resilient, and sustainable region for the people of today and future generations," the Prime Minister stated.
