Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is set to visit Singapore on November 7th as part of efforts to enhance collaboration between Thailand and Singapore in key areas such as the digital economy, food security, and combating scams. The visit comes at the invitation of Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who expressed readiness to send representatives to a meeting focused on suppressing online crimes.
According to Thai News Agency, the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Anutin and Prime Minister Wong took place on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits. During the discussions, Prime Minister Anutin expressed his pleasure in meeting with Prime Minister Wong for the first time and acknowledged Wong's congratulatory call upon his assumption of office. Both leaders indicated a commitment to strengthening cooperation across various sectors.
The official visit to Singapore on November 7, 2025, coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Prime Minister Anutin congratulated Singapore for being Thailand's top investor for two consecutive years and encouraged further investment in high-tech industries, including digital payments, data centers, semiconductors, electric vehicles, and healthcare.
The Prime Ministers agreed on the importance of food security and discussed the concept of food storage. They also celebrated the anticipated signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on rice trade during Anutin's visit.
Thailand's focus on digital economic development was emphasized, with hopes for continued knowledge exchange. Prime Minister Anutin appreciated Singapore's support for Thailand's accession to the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement. The discussions also included expanding cooperation in potential sectors like fintech, energy, public health, and healthcare.
A significant part of the talks was dedicated to addressing transnational crimes, particularly cybercrime and online fraud. Prime Minister Wong agreed to send a representative to participate in the Cybercrime Countermeasures Conference, an initiative by Prime Minister Anutin.
The meeting concluded with a photo session between the two leaders, which Prime Minister Wong shared on Instagram, highlighting the strong friendship and rapport. The upcoming visit is a significant step in celebrating six decades of Thai-Singapore diplomatic relations.
