Bangkok: The Prime Minister delivered a speech on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, emphasizing the concept of "Stop Drugs, Start Power", and announced measures to close the border in 52 districts to prevent drug smuggling and transnational crime. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of rehabilitation and treatment for drug addicts, stressing the need to reintegrate them into society.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, addressed the nation on the occasion of the 'International Day Against Drug Abuse' in 2025. The United Nations General Assembly has designated June 26 as the International Day Against Drug Abuse. Thailand has joined a global campaign against drug abuse, working with government, private, and public sectors to combat drugs, which pose threats to peace, order, and safety, affecting lives and properties across the world and in the ASEAN region.

The government has identified the prevention and resolution of drug issues as a national priority requiring immediate action and measurable outcomes. Legal measures and mechanisms at both central and local levels are being utilized to intercept drug smuggling along the border and dismantle drug trafficking networks.

The Prime Minister elaborated on the government's "Seal Stop Safe" strategy, aimed at addressing drug issues comprehensively by fortifying the borders in 52 districts to prevent drug smuggling and transnational crime. The strategy involves rigorous inspections at both permanent and temporary border crossings, including natural passages. This approach has led to ongoing drug suppression efforts and an increase in methamphetamine prices on the black market, indicating restricted drug access.

Additionally, the government focuses on the rehabilitation of drug users, emphasizing treatment and social reintegration. Efforts are being made to educate the youth about the dangers of drugs and to foster public awareness to deter drug involvement. Collaboration from local authorities, including village headmen, district chiefs, provincial governors, and families, is crucial to ensuring safety and monitoring within communities.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to all sectors, including government and private entities, as well as the citizens of Thailand, for their cooperation in safeguarding children and society from drugs. She encouraged those who have completed treatment to reintegrate into society.

"Invite Thai people to join forces to participate in preventing and solving drug problems under the concept of 'Stop Drugs, Start Power, Build Thai Power, Stop Drug Threats'. Join together to protect society from drugs for a better life for our children," the Prime Minister urged.
