Preparing to Screen Thais After Cambodia Cracks Down on Call Center Gangs

Bangkok: Cyber police are preparing to screen and expand the investigation of Thais involved in the Cambodian call center gang after a crackdown to determine if they are involved or not. If any wrongdoing is found, legal action will be taken immediately.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpaen, Commander of the Technology Crime Investigation Division (Cyber Police), revealed the case in which Cambodian police raided a three-story building in Poipet, which is the base of a large call center gang, and were able to arrest more than 200 foreigners, 109 of whom were Thais.

The operation was carried out after Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitaneelabut, Inspector-General of the Royal Thai Police, coordinated information about a call center gang in the Poipet area with the Cambodian police on Friday, in order for the Cambodian police to conduct a raid and arrest a building believed to be the base of the call center gang, leading to today's raid and arrest.

As for the Cyber Police, after this they will have to wait for the initial screening of information from the frontline border police units to bring forensic information and the mobile phones of the Thais who provided assistance to further investigate whether they are involved in technology crimes or not before proceeding to press charges. It was confirmed that legal action will be taken against all levels of those involved, whether they are the ones who ordered it or not.
