Powerful Earthquake Strikes Myanmar, 1,644 Dead

Mandalay: A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar on Friday, resulting in the deaths of 1,644 people, with 3,408 individuals reported injured and 139 missing. The hardest hit regions include Mandalay, Bago, Magway, northeastern Shan State, Sagaing, and Naypyidaw.

According to Thai News Agency, the Information Team of Myanmar's State Administration Council provided these figures late Saturday. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of Myanmar's State Administration Council, visited Mandalay by helicopter on Saturday morning to inspect the severely affected areas. He made an appeal for international assistance following the disaster.
