Pope Francis’s Condition Improves Slightly Amid Pneumonia Treatment

Vatican City: Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic Church, who is undergoing treatment for pneumonia in both eyes, is showing slight improvement. The Vatican said in a statement late Wednesday local time that the Pope's overall condition was stable. Blood tests showed slight improvement, especially in his inflammation. However, the inflammation in both lungs is considered a serious infection, which can cause the lungs to become inflamed and scarred, making it harder to breathe.

According to Thai News Agency, the Vatican reported that after breakfast, he read a newspaper and in the morning talked about work with people close to him before lunch. After that, he received Holy Communion and in the afternoon he received an audience with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who came to visit him. He spent about 20 minutes talking privately with the Italian leader.

Pope Francis has been admitted to the Gemilla Hospital in Rome for treatment of a respiratory infection since February 14. Doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia in both eyes on February 18. The Vatican said he will remain in the hospital for treatment as long as necessary and will suspend public duties in the meantime.
