Muang Thong Thani: Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 1, Pol. Maj. Gen. Chokchai Ngamwong, announced this afternoon that authorities will be investigating a bank regarding the discovery of 12 million baht found abandoned in a garbage dump at a condo in Muang Thong Thani.
According to Thai News Agency, the investigation involves five key agencies: the Anti-Corruption Division, the Anti-Money Laundering Office, the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, the National Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Pak Kret Police Station. The investigation is focused on tracing the financial origins of the 12 million baht, a transaction that reportedly occurred back in 2020. Investigators from the Nonthaburi Provincial Police will be dispatched this afternoon to delve into these matters with the bank.
The authorities are awaiting details from the bank to understand how the money was deposited and the circumstances leading to the accumulation of 12 million baht. The Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission and the National Anti-Corruption Commission are also examining the involvement of Mr. Thaweewat, a government official, to determine compliance with asset declaration laws. A thorough financial inquiry is necessary to ascertain the truth, and officials are requesting additional time to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
Pol. Lt. Col. Chokchai mentioned that the investigation team has reached out to the bank to discuss the aspects that need probing. Given that the financial activities in question date back five years, a detailed review of relevant documents is essential. Investigators are currently assessing these documents to determine their completeness.
Regarding the potential questioning of Mr. Thaweewat, Pol. Maj. Gen. Chokchai indicated that further inquiries might be pursued if new issues emerge. Summonses have been issued to four companies involved, requiring them to provide testimonies as witnesses on June 20. Recognizing the public interest in this matter, Provincial Police Region 1 is committed to expediting the investigation process.
