Bangkok: A tragic altercation at a karaoke bar resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man, identified as Mr. Atthaphon, who was shot and fatally injured after a simple request to clink glasses escalated into violence. The incident, which took place at 01:51 a.m., has left the local community in shock as authorities continue to investigate.
According to Thai News Agency, the altercation began when Mr. Atthaphon, while drinking at a karaoke bar, approached the table of Mr. Kiatsak, also known as Ti, to clink glasses. The request was met with hostility, leading to an argument. The situation deteriorated when Mr. Atthaphon armed himself with a bottle and was subsequently shot by Mr. Ekaphon or Ek, who was called to the scene by a police officer, Sgt. Earth, who was also present.
The police were alerted to the incident at Sam Kwai Phuek Police Station, where they discovered a .45 caliber bullet casing amidst a blood-stained scene. Mr. Atthaphon was found almost unconscious across the road from the karaoke bar, and despite paramedics' efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, which included a gunshot wound to the right abdomen and a knife slash on his right arm.
Mr. Kesem, the shop owner, detailed the sequence of events, recounting how Sgt. Earth, accompanied by Mr. Ek and an unknown long-haired man, arrived at the bar. Tensions flared when Mr. Atthaphon questioned the refusal to clink glasses, prompting Sgt. Earth to assert his authority by revealing his rank and threatening Atthaphon. The situation escalated as Sgt. Earth allegedly called Mr. Ek, who then shot Mr. Atthaphon during the ensuing scuffle.
Despite his severe injuries, Mr. Atthaphon attempted to flee on a motorcycle but ultimately collapsed by the roadside, prompting Mr. Kesem to call for police and medical assistance. Law enforcement is actively pursuing Mr. Ek, who fled the scene on a motorcycle. Investigators are tracking his whereabouts via mobile phone signals, as he has reportedly not changed his SIM card.
The police continue to interview witnesses and piece together the events leading up to the tragic death, as the community grapples with the senseless violence that unfolded from a seemingly innocuous gesture.
