Police Launch Urgent Hunt for Firecracker Culprit at Assistant Minister’s Home

Bangkok: Police are urgently seeking the individual responsible for throwing firecrackers into the residence of the Assistant Minister of Culture. The incident, which fortunately resulted in no injuries, is under investigation by authorities.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Sayam Boonsom, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), and Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat, Deputy Commissioner of the MPB, have directed Pol. Col. Naren Khrueangsanuk, Superintendent of Khan Na Yao Police Station, along with his officers, to investigate the event. The incident occurred at the home of Pol. Phonphum Wiphatiphumphat, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Culture, on January 24, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m. The house is located on Soi 67, Intersection 6, Soi 3, Tha Raeng Subdistrict, Bang Khen District.

The police were notified after Kannayao Police Station received a report from the victim about objects resembling firecrackers being thrown into the house, accompanied by a loud noise. Upon arrival, police met with Mr. Phonphum, who indicated that a male suspect on a motorcycle had been observed on CCTV riding around the front of the house 2-3 times before launching the firecrackers.

The investigation revealed slight damage to the garden soil in front of the house, though no injuries were reported. Mr. Phonphum's parents reside at the property. Khan Na Yao Police Station's investigation team is currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the culprit. Forensic officers have also collected evidence from the scene to aid in the pursuit.

The news report highlighted that Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom has instructed a swift pursuit of the suspect due to the brazen nature of the crime, which showed a blatant disregard for the law and posed potential risks to public safety. The police are examining CCTV footage to establish the suspect's movements and escape route.

Preliminary findings indicate a single perpetrator involved, captured on CCTV riding a blue Honda Wave motorcycle, wearing a blue shirt and helmet to conceal his identity. Police efforts to locate and arrest the suspect are ongoing, with an arrest anticipated soon.
