Police Helicopter Crash in Prachuap Khiri Khan: Officials Collect Debris and Investigate Incident

Prachuap Khiri Khan: Officials have been actively collecting parts of the crashed police helicopter in Tambon Koh Lak, Mueang District. The crash site, which spans houses and farms in the area, has been cordoned off to prevent unauthorized access. The police and local government officials have been deployed to maintain order since the incident occurred.

According to Thai News Agency, police officers, including the case officer, have revisited the crash site to gather detailed information. A team of investigators also utilized drones for aerial photography to locate scattered debris. The collected helicopter parts are being gathered at a command tent near the crash site, awaiting further inspection from higher authorities or aircraft manufacturer representatives.

The incident affected local villagers, with debris causing damage to their properties. Mrs. Yai, a resident, recounted the moments before the crash, noting how she heard the helicopter flying unusually low before witnessing its tail fall. The helicopter eventually crashed, and she observed black smoke rising from the crash site.

Reports indicate that the helicopter flew over Tambon Salui in Chumphon Province before crashing, with CCTV footage capturing the low-altitude flight. Observers noted the unusual sound of the engine, suggesting potential mechanical issues.

In the aftermath, the bodies of the police officers who perished in the crash are being transported to their respective locations for funeral proceedings. The victims include Pol. Lt. Col. Pratuang Chuleud, Pol. Lt. Songphon Boonchai, and Pol. Lt. Tinkrit Suwannoi, who served in the Royal Thai Police's Aviation Group and Aircraft Engineering Group.

The Bell 212 helicopter involved in the crash is a twin-engine model first flown in 1968 and has been in service in Thailand since 1973. Known for its cargo capacity and utility, the helicopter has a longstanding history with both civilian and government operators.
