Beijing: Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister of Thailand, revealed insights from her recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding Thailand's proposed entertainment complex. During the Cabinet meeting, Ms. Shinawatra explained that while the complex would include a small casino component, comprising less than 10% of its offerings, it would primarily serve as a family-friendly destination featuring facilities like an amusement park. She emphasized the potential economic benefits, including tax revenue which could be directed towards educational initiatives and national development.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted that the entertainment complex is intended to attract foreign tourists, create jobs, and generate income for local businesses and hotels. While acknowledging the existence of illegal gambling activities in Thailand, she suggested that legalizing and regulating such spaces could help harness economic benefits for the nation.
In response to queries about President Xi's concerns, Ms. Shinawatra mentioned that the Chinese leader provided valuable advice on the potential outcomes of including a casino. Drawing from China's own experiences with casinos in Macau, President Xi discussed both the advantages and potential drawbacks. The Prime Minister expressed her willingness to consider these insights, valuing the guidance from a neighboring country with extensive experience in the sector.
