Emeritus Professor Dr. Pirongrong Ramsut, a member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) for television affairs, arrived at the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases, where the verdict on True Digital Group Co., Ltd.'s lawsuit against her is scheduled to be announced.
According to Thai News Agency, the case centers around a digital TV warning letter concerning the insertion of advertisements, which led to Dr. Pirongrong losing her NBTC seat. Despite her worries, she maintains that she has conducted her duties correctly. The court session commenced at 9:00 a.m., with Associate Professor Dr. Preeda Akarachantachoti, Dean of Chulalongkorn University, alongside colleagues and former students, attending to offer support. They presented Dr. Pirongrong with a bouquet of flowers, a gesture from the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University.
Dr. Preeda, identifying himself as a close friend and colleague of Dr. Pirongrong, expressed confidence in her integrity and innocence. He described her as a straightforward individual and a role model in her various roles as a teacher, academic, and administrator. He admitted they had not spoken personally about her concerns but had consistently offered his encouragement. Upon her arrival, Dr. Pirongrong was met with support from representatives of Chulalongkorn University. She acknowledged the gravity of the day's decision and admitted to feeling anxious, yet affirmed her commitment to her role at the NBTC.
When reflecting on her tenure, Dr. Pirongrong expressed regret over unfulfilled initiatives, particularly advocating for media rights in provincial communities and fostering ethical standards among media professionals. She highlighted the necessity for NBTC support, especially given the current challenging economic conditions, and voiced concerns over ongoing matters still awaiting resolution.
