Pirapan Engages with Mexican Ambassador to Boost Clean Energy Cooperation

Bangkok: "Pirapan" discusses with the Mexican Ambassador to strengthen cooperation in clean energy and investment in potential industries. H.E. Mrs. Ilse Lili¡n Ferrer Silva, Ambassador of the United Mexican States to Thailand, met with Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, to promote bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Mexico, especially in the area of renewable energy potential.

According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure to meet the Mexican Ambassador and praised his strong role in promoting relations between the two countries since assuming the position. Mexico and Thailand enjoy smooth and close relations, as well as similarities in that they are both countries with distinct and unique cultural roots and a love for spicy food. Mexican food has become increasingly popular in Thailand in recent years. This reflects the closeness between the two countries and the opportunities for cooperation in various fields that can be further enhanced in the future.

The Mexican Ambassador expressed his delight at meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, which is a good opportunity to promote cooperation between the two countries in various areas, including promoting gender equality, exchanging cooperation in disaster management from earthquakes, science, environment, and sustainable development, as well as jointly driving the transition to clean energy, as Mexico is one of the world's leaders in renewable energy. He expressed his hope that both countries will be able to enhance their cooperation in renewable energy even further, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Mexico this year.

In terms of energy, both sides agreed to support the cooperation between the energy ministries of the two countries, with a focus on clean energy. The Mexican Ambassador presented the 'Sonora Clean Energy Project', a plan to develop the northern part of Mexico, taking advantage of its strategic location near the US border, to promote clean energy and related industries, such as solar power, lithium industry, and electric vehicle (EV) production, for which Mexico is a major global production base. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for Mexico's policy approach to driving the transition to clean energy and believed that the two countries could exchange cooperation in this area more effectively in the future.

At the end of the discussion, both sides agreed that despite the geographical distance between Thailand and Mexico, the strong foundation of relations and cultural similarities will open the door to new cooperation opportunities between the two countries in various dimensions in a tangible way. The Deputy Prime Minister thanked the Mexican Ambassador and his delegation for the visit and discussion this time and expressed his readiness to fully coordinate cooperation to promote closer relations between Thailand and Mexico in all aspects.
