Bangkok: The much-anticipated Pink Line electric train extension from Si Rat Station to Muang Thong Thani is set to open for free public rides for a month starting in late June 2025. According to Thai News Agency, the Pink Line extension project, which spans two stations over a distance of 3 kilometers, is progressing ahead of schedule. As of January 2025, the project stands at 85.97% completion, with civil works and systems works reported at 87.88% and 82.22% respectively. The virtual test run is anticipated to commence in late May 2025, with full service slated to begin on July 19, 2025, at a fare range of 15-22 baht. The project will also adopt the 20 baht flat-rate fare measure by September 2025. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has reported substantia l passenger use of the Pink Line's main section, with over 2 million passengers in January 2025 and an average daily ridership of 36,524 in early February 2025. The MRTA expects ridership numbers to grow steadily with the extension's opening. The extension, similar to the existing Khae Rai - Min Buri main section, is part of the broader electric train network in Bangkok, promoting increased public transportation use and reducing urban pollution. The extension's connection at Muang Thong Thani Station (PK10) links to various destinations, including Nonthaburi Civic Center Station and Min Buri Station, enhancing accessibility across the network. The Impact Muang Thong Thani Station (MT01) offers multiple exit points connecting to key locations such as Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Wat Phasukmaneejak School, and the Impact Muang Thong Thani complex. Additionally, a Skywalk is under construction to link the station with the Challenger building, providing convenient access for event attendees at Impact Arena.
