Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Phumtham Wechayachai, who is currently serving as Acting Prime Minister, has publicly supported a ceasefire proposal suggested by U.S. President Donald Trump to resolve the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. According to Thai News Agency, Phumtham revealed through a Facebook post that he had engaged in a phone conversation with President Trump. During this discussion, Trump proposed that both nations immediately implement a ceasefire to address the tensions at the border. Phumtham expressed gratitude for the U.S.'s involvement and confirmed Thailand's agreement in principle to the ceasefire. However, he emphasized the necessity for Cambodia to demonstrate genuine commitment to the process. Thailand has requested that the United States communicate its position to Cambodia, urging the initiation of bilateral talks at the earliest opportunity. The Thai government is advocating for Cambodia to display seriousness and sincerity, which are cru cial for establishing definitive measures and procedures for the ceasefire, ultimately ensuring a peaceful and enduring resolution to the ongoing dispute.
