Phumtham Leads Key Meeting on Thai-Laos Border Issues

Vientiane: "Phumtham" has taken charge of a crucial meeting of the Thai-Laos General Border Peacekeeping Committee (GBC), where discussions are anticipated to focus on border demarcation and measures against illegal activities.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Thailand, has spearheaded a delegation to the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to engage in an extraordinary session of the GBC in Vientiane. This session aims to address various cross-border issues, including the demarcation of the border and the crackdown on call center gangs operating illegally along the frontier.

The Deputy Prime Minister and his entourage arrived at Vientiane's Wattay Airport at 09.00 hrs. aboard an Air Force aircraft and were received by representatives from the Lao Ministry of Defense. The meeting aims to foster international cooperation in border management, suppression of unlawful activities, and military training initiatives between the two nations.

The discussions are expected to take place at the Holiday Inn and Suites Vientiane, where Mr. Phumtham will first engage in a "four eyes meeting" with Lt. Gen. Khamliang Uthakaisone, the Lao Minister of National Defense. Following this, Mr. Phumtham will co-chair the 1/2025 extraordinary meeting of the GBC, reinforcing the collaborative efforts of Thailand and Laos in maintaining border peace and security.
